PE & Sport for all in Cappoquin Primary School

Swimming

Swimming Lessons for some classes take place every year. 

Hurling /Camogie & Gaelic Football

Visiting sports coaches visit our school every year and pupils in all classes are trained in the skills of hurling/camogie and gaelic football.  Conor Prendergast GDC for Waterford GAA usually comes to the school during the year.  Then Cappoquin Affane GAA Club provide coaching in the school regularly throughout the school year.  All pupils are asked to have a hurley and helmet for hurling and camogie sessions. Pupils get the opportunity to experience and participate in a range of sporting activities. Each year the school takes part in a variety of competitions ranging from hurling and camogie primary school competitions, INTO Mini 7’s Gaelic football, hurling and camogie.

 

 

Soccer

We also have a close relationship with our local soccer club, Cappoquin Railway FC, which is situated within walking distance of the school. The club make their facilities (pitch, astro pitch and walkway) available to the school to use. Many of the children in our school play for the underage club, Cappoquin Railway Football Club. Many children in the older classes regularly play soccer on the yard at break times. The school enter teams in the FAI 5 a side tournament on an annual basis as well as other indoor competitions as they arise.


Athletics
Pupils from 1st – 6th class have an opportunity to take part in competitions each year.  

Badminton

Cappoquin Primary School / Bunscoil Gleann Sidheáin in conjunction with Blackwater Juvenile Badminton Club submit teams to represent the school at the Munster & All Ireland School’s Badminton Competition. The Munster Competition usually takes place in the University of Limerick and the teams that qualify for the All Ireland series travel to Dublin. 

 

 

Tennis:

Shelley Mernin from Dungarvan Tennis Club coaches’ tennis for a six weeks block during the school year.  The children really enjoy the tennis sessions on the astro pitch or in the hall on wet days.

 

Gymnastics

Gymnastics classes take place for pupils in all classes which they thoroughly enjoy. We have gymnastics classes in the school regularly as part of the P.E. Curriculum.

Annual Sports Day

Our annual sports day takes place in June; this is a fantastic fun-filled day for all classes with various sporting activities to suit all ages and abilities.
