Swimming Lessons for some classes take place every year.
Hurling/Camogie/Gaelic Football
Visiting sports coaches visit our school every year and pupils in all classes are trained in the skills of hurling/camogie, football, tag rugby, spikeball and soccer. The local GAA (Cappoquin/Affane/Tourin GAA club) and (Cappoquin Camogie Club) camogie clubs work closely with the school and support us in many ways. Lunchtime training in hurling/camogie and gaelic football takes place on designated days throughout the school year. Pupils get the opportunity to experience and participate in a range of sporting activities. Each year the school takes part in a variety of primary school competitions in gaelic football, hurling and camogie.
Soccer
We also have a close relationship with our local soccer club, Cappoquin Railway FC, which is situated within walking distance of the school. The club make their facilities (pitch, astro pitch and walkway) available to the school to use. Many of the children in our school play for the underage club, Cappoquin Railway Football Club. Many children in the older classes regularly play soccer on the yard at break times. The school enter teams in the FAI 5 a side tournament on an annual basis as well as other indoor competitions as they arise.
Athletics
Pupils from 1st – 6th class have an opportunity to take part in the West Waterford primary Sports each year.
Gymnastics
Gymnastics classes took place this school year for all pupils in all classes which they thoroughly enjoyed.
Movement and Dance
Movement and Dance form an integral part of the Physical Education curriculum in Primary School. In recognition of this, all the children in Cappoquin Primary School have the chance to participate in a course of lessons in movement and dance.
This year we will be focusing on hip-hop and modern dance.
Annual Sports Day
Our annual sports day takes place in June, this is a fantastic fun-filled day for all classes with various sporting activities to suit all ages and abilities.
